Abstract

For centuries, sociologists, political scientists and mathematicians have tried to work out ways in which democracy might better represent the will of the people. I will present recent experiments within this broad program, aimed to understand the mechanisms by which societies may reach decisions that are egalitarian and plural, representing the diversity of thought, while also achieving some immunity from psychological mechanisms that are well known to hinder collective decision making.
